Demand for Immediate Local Government Election in Punjab Gains Momentum

The Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) conducted a district seminar today focusing on the pressing demand for local government elections in Punjab. The event, held at a local hotel in Rawalpindi, brought together current and former lawmakers, political figures, and civil society representatives to discuss the importance of local governance.

The seminar provided a platform for in-depth discussions on the significance of local government elections and their potential impact on grassroots democracy in Punjab. Speakers emphasized the need for timely elections to ensure effective local governance and community development.

Syed Kausar Abbas, Executive Director of SSDO, stated, “Local government elections are the backbone of a thriving democracy. They ensure that citizens have a direct say in the decisions that affect their daily lives. We urge the provincial government to prioritize these elections to strengthen democratic processes at the grassroots level. The local development is not possible without taking local communities and local government for inclusive development in the province.

Former local government officials’ members of the media and members of the civil society also expressed their views on the absence of local government elections in Punjab, which has led to the piling up of developmental projects in their immediate surroundings. They also stressed the need for all stakeholders to work collaboratively.
