Fatima Jinnah Women University Students won Youth Award at the SSDO International Conference on Combatting Human Trafficking

Islamabad; Four MPhil Students from the Department of Gender Studies, Fatima Jinnah Women University won Youth Award on Combatting Human Trafficking funded by SSDO. This was awarded to them on their exemplary research on bonded labour in Rawalpindi District, as well as conducting awareness sessions in the field. The team was awarded with a trophy and winning price of Rs. 20,000/- during “International Conference on Combatting Trafficking in Persons in Pakistan” organized by Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO). PUAN Country representative HE Paul presented this award to the students.

The Youth Award was announced by the SSDO to promote awareness among the educated youth on the issue of human trafficking and bonded labour. 7 Universities across Pakistan including Punjab University, Karachi University, Sindh University Jamshoro, Islamia University Bahawalpur, Women University Multan, Qauid-e-Azam University Islamabad and Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi participated in the contest.

SSDO is working on issues of peace and sustainable development in Pakistan by engaging all national and international stakeholders and citizens of Pakistan. SSDO is also implementing a project with support of US Mission in Pakistan to strengthen institutional capacity and collaboration of various stakeholders for implementation of legal framework to reduce trafficking in persons and increase direct referrals of victims for services or rehabilitation and advocating for prevention and prosecution of Trafficking in Persons.

Executive Director SSDO Syed Kausar Abbas while encouraging the young students said that the awareness campaign and research of the female students against forced labor is commendable. The role of youth is the most important for the change and betterment of the society. He said that SSDO is working with many universities across the Pakistan for capacity building and awareness of the youth on different issues including human trafficking.
